Define a realistic budget based on features you prioritize most — from basic gunite shells starting around $55,000 for plunge pools up to $80,000+ for XL pools, with additional costs for features like spas (starting at $8,000), automation (starting at $2,500), and premium finishes. Our Proven Construction Process
Project Design & Proposal
The first step involves an initial meeting between you and one of our trained design technicians. During this consultation, we discover what you’re looking for in your overall pool and landscape layout. All of our pools are designed specifically for each individual customer. We take a detailed survey of your property including home and lot dimensions, positioning, building setbacks, location of utilities, and accessibility to the construction site. Within a few days, you’ll receive a fully prepared plan and proposed construction cost.
Layout & Excavation
Once plans are approved, construction begins with precise layout using stakes and redwood forms that represent the outer edge of your pool shell. The excavation process follows, with earth either hauled away or kept on-site for backfilling. This is one of the “dirty and noisy” phases, so we recommend keeping windows closed and children away from the construction area.
Steel, Electrical & Inspections
We place 3/8″ steel reinforcing bars to strengthen the gunite shell, shaped to your pool’s design with extra steel at high-stress points. Our licensed electricians inspect your service panel, determine distances to mechanical locations, and bond the steel structure. All necessary inspections are coordinated before proceeding to gunite.
The Gunite Advantage
Gunite represents the gold standard in pool construction, providing unmatched durability and design flexibility. This major construction phase involves large trucks and considerable activity, but the results justify the temporary disruption. During gunite application, stairs, benches, and light niches are set in place. The curing process requires wetting the shell twice daily for seven days, during which 85% of the concrete cure takes place.

Plumbing Installation
Schedule 40 PVC pipe is installed beneath the deck and extended to mechanical equipment locations. This includes main drains, skimmers, hydro-therapy jets, automatic cleaners, waterfalls, and other mechanical lines. All piping is pressure tested to ensure leak-free operation.
Tile & Coping
A 6″ band of frostproof ceramic tile is applied to the top inside edge of your pool for easy cleaning at the water line. Our stone masons install coping, field stone, or other edge treatments based on your design preferences.
Deck Construction
The deck serves as the entertainment area around your pool, so proper layout is crucial. We offer various decking options including plain concrete, exposed aggregate, pavers, or stamped concrete. Each option provides different aesthetic and functional benefits to complement your overall design.
Equipment Installation
Mechanical components including filter systems, time clocks, automatic cleaners, and heaters are installed prior to interior finishing. All equipment is properly wired and tested to ensure optimal performance.
Pool Startup and Beyond
Once your pool is filled, our team starts the mechanical equipment and provides basic operating instruction. The initial 7-10 days involve testing and adjusting pH levels, brushing the pool, and backwashing the system. We guide you through this process to ensure your pool operates perfectly from day one.

Pool safety remains our top priority throughout construction and beyond. We recommend constant supervision when children are around the pool area, ensuring children learn to swim, and considering automatic pool covers with coded keypads for maximum protection.
